Nokubongwa

Studio Maternity Session

There is something incredibly powerful about the season before a baby arrives.

It is a season of waiting, wondering, imagining, and becoming.

Before a mother holds her baby in her arms, she carries them close to her heart. Before she knows their little personality, their smile, or the sound of their laugh, there is already a deep connection forming.

This studio maternity session with Nokubongwa was a celebration of that beautiful transition into motherhood as she prepared to welcome her baby boy, Amila.

Strength has always been part of Nokubongwa’s story.

Having played professional netball for 10 years, she understands dedication, discipline, and what it means to train and challenge the body.

But pregnancy revealed a different kind of strength.

A quieter strength.

The strength of carrying new life.

The strength of adapting to change.

The strength of embracing vulnerability.

Her pregnancy journey has been a mixture of intense fatigue, beautiful changes, and moments of stress as her body adjusted to growing a new life. Yet within all of those changes was the incredible reminder that her body was doing something truly miraculous.

When asked what moment from pregnancy she would always remember, Nokubongwa shared one simple but profound answer:

Feeling Amila’s first kicks.

Those tiny movements are often the first moments when pregnancy becomes deeply real. A reminder that this little life is not just an idea or a dream, but a precious baby already making himself known.

Motherhood is one of life's greatest transformations.

Nokubongwa described becoming a mother as:

"An intense, lifelong journey of unconditional love, selflessness, and continuous growth. It means embracing profound vulnerability while guiding and nurturing a completely dependent life."

There is so much wisdom in those words.

Motherhood asks a woman to love beyond herself. It invites her into a new season of responsibility, tenderness, and growth.

It is both humbling and awe-inspiring.

Years from now, these portraits will bring Nokubongwa back to this chapter.

Back to the feeling of carrying Amila.

Back to the wonder of pregnancy.

Back to the incredible strength and beauty of the woman she was before she became his mother.

Because these photographs are not only about remembering what pregnancy looked like.

They are about remembering what it felt like.

The anticipation.

The love.

The transformation.

The quiet miracle of becoming.

It was such an honour to capture this beautiful season for Nokubongwa as she waited to meet her baby boy, Amila.
